Email marketing is one of the most consistently effective forms of marketing.
But that’s not very useful when you’ve run out of ideas or don’t know why yours aren’t delivering results.
Here are some Pro Tips and Tricks from our Axel & Associates Email Marketing team to help you rethink your email campaigns. . .
3 Expert Email Marketing Tips
First: Switch things up in your emails. Don’t let your emails become predictable cookie-cutter and formula-driven molds of each other. For example, try sending an email that is mainly just an embedded video that communicates everything you would have ordinarily written out. It makes the email much shorter in content and keeps the reader engaged in a different way. Videos are also particularly effective for announcement emails!
That said, email templates are still your friend especially for focused emails around specific purposes. As with any template, just be sure to personalize it substantially so it doesn’t feel like a template. So fine tune your emails to your specific purposes for that particular campaign. Once again: all your email should not be identical.
Second: Marketing effectiveness is all about relevancy. To keep you emails as relevant and effective as possible, don’t send out the same emails to you entire email list. Instead, break it down as much as you can. This can be done with trigger-driven software that they initiate or by using whatever data you have to segment emails that are as catered as possible. This is where having an organized and efficient database really makes a big difference in delivering results. To do this, you also need to make sure you are collecting the right information on the front end of the sign up process.
Third: Recycle and Repackage successful previous emails. This might seem like we’re contradicting our first point about fine-tuning your emails, but there’s a key difference here. Your email marketing campaign, like all marketing campaigns, should be data-driven. That means it’s very important to have access to the data results and analytics of your previous emails so that this can inform the way you move forward. This does not mean that you keep resending your most successful email. However, it can give you clues as to what certain audience segments are responding to, which you should take note of and incorporate in fresh ways with future emails. Like everything in life and in marketing, it often comes down to walking a fine line and making judgement calls based on experience — and data.
