How To Build Your Social Media Marketing Campaign

Social media marketing is a key component to modern digital marketing, and its highly affordable for any business.

Here are some easy, tried-and-true tips to put it to use for your business…

Three Social Media Marketing Tips and Tricks

First, know your audience – and get very specific. Take a look at your existing social media marketing insights and analytics that your pages receive and use them to understand your current followers. Then factor in data from other sources on your customers, clients, and broader audience. You can get this from your website, on-the-ground experience, and even by watching your competitors. The more detailed your picture is of your target base, the better. Facebook, the king of all social media outlets, fortunately, lets us micro-target with extreme details based on age, gender, location, interests, and a wide range of other demographics. This is perfect for applying your micro-targeting data.

Now let’s discuss visuals and layout. One successful approach you can take to setting up the look of your social media ad is to have it closely resemble an ordinary social media post. In terms of messaging, remember that you don’t have a lot of space to work with, so communicating a single clear message is key. Have that single, specific message point to a single link that you’re directing them to for a product, service, flash sale, or new offering. Make sure to also clearly state what they should do. This is called your “Call To Action.” This usually has very clear phrasing like “click here to…” or “check out our new…” and so on. Bonus tip: the links you include should take visitors to specially-crafted landing pages designed to complement and reinforce that particular ad. There’s also well-established conventional wisdom in social media marketing that people pay the most attention to posts with some form of visual media, such as photos, chart graphics, or video. Bonus tip #2: images and videos are other opportunities to include a bit more text, but you’re better served by keeping it brief so the viewer’s attention isn’t lost in a sea of print.

There you have it: strategic targeting + brief but strong message (with a Call to Action) + visual media = your basic formula for social media marketing success. Of course, there’s much more to it than this, such as fine-tuning your ad around a specific goal. For example, an ad to make an announcement or build general online brand awareness will look different than an ad to promote a specific discount. Additionally, you should also do your best to adapt the ad to best suit whatever social media platform you’re advertising in (in other words, an Instagram ad and a Twitter ad should not look identical). With all this in mind, these are still some solid guidelines to get you started and leave you with plenty of wiggle room to experiment and compare results!
